Owned by Bill and Betsy Nachbaur, the Alegría Vineyard lies outside Healdsburg, on property that was first planted with grapes in 1857.  This is a cool site for Cabernet Franc, even if it is the warmest section of the Russian River Valley.  Here the grapes take a long time to mature, typically not ripening until late October, and some years November.  The Alegría soils are a deep clay loam, slightly acidic, and peppered with stones of oceanic and volcanic origins.  The cabernet franc block was planted in 1991 with double cordon trellising that stands higher than normal, allowing better canopy control for balancing sunlight and shade to achieve optimal flavors.

Bill's viticultural expertise and the vineyard's limited vigor highlights cabernet franc's charming fruitiness reinforced with pronounced minerality.
