RLR Vineyard

Green Valley

Russian River Valley

Sonoma County

2010 Foray Pinot Noir

2011 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

The RLR Vineyard is located just outside Forestville, in a gently sloping glen, surrounded on 3 sides by oak, laurel, and redwood trees.  This site lies a little more than a mile south of the cool Russian River, yet has a "banana belt" microclimate.  The daily summer fog clears faster here producing moderately warm mornings and toasty afternoons.  The RLR soil is all Goldridge sandy loam, which Pinot Noir enjoys because of its fast drainage.  The vineyard is planted with a mélange of Dijon 113, 114, and 115 clones, producing a field mix for us.

We selected the RLR Vineyard for our 2010 Foray pinot because the good soils, sheltered site, warmer microclimate, and clonal mix result in a distinct Pinot Noir character  reminiscent of blueberries.
